OR Benchmarks was founded in 1996 by OR Manager, Inc, to provide benchmarking services for surgical services. OR Manager has brought its expertise and leadership to this venture to help surgical facilities manage costs.

OR Manager

OR Manager is the leader in providing information on management of the OR. The OR Manager publication, launched in 1985, reaches 3,200 readers across the country. OR Manager, Inc, also publishes OR Reports, an electronic publication comprising abstracts of scientific literature relating to the OR environment. It is available on the OR Manager web site, www.ormanager.com.

OR Manager, Inc, offers annual conferences on OR management. Managing Today’s OR Suite conference is held in the fall, while the OR Business Management Conference is held in the spring.

OR Benchmarks

OR Benchmarks, a service of OR Manager, Inc, offers two programs:

The OR Benchmarks Collaborative, in partnership with McKesson, offers health care facilities a dashboard service that provides monthly benchmarks of OR efficiencies and external benchmarks with facilities nationwide.

Surgeon Satisfaction Surveys measure how your primary customers, your surgeons, evaluate your OR’s services.

OR Benchmarks Key Personnel

Judy S. Dahle, RN, MS, Director

An experienced OR executive, Judy Dahle was most recently administrative director at Hoag Memorial Hospital-Presbyterian, Newport Beach, Calif. She is past president of the OR Nursing Council of California.

During her professional career, her responsibilities have been in management and education with emphasis on program development, systems design, quality improvement, and team development.

Dahle has a master’s degree in health care administration from the University of LaVerne, California, a BA in psychology from the University of Southern California, and an associate degree in nursing from Pasadena City College/Huntington Memorial. She has recently earned an MS in gerontology.

Elinor S. Schrader, AB

As president of OR Manager, Inc, Schrader’s mission has been to provide OR personnel with the information and tools they need to develop their skills as managers of the OR. She is publisher of OR Manager, the newsletter for OR decision makers, and OR Reports, the electronic publication of abstracts of scientific research relating to the OR environment.

Before founding OR Manager, Inc, with Pat Patterson in 1985, Schrader was editor of the AORN Journal for eleven years. She is a graduate of Cornell University.

Stuart Patterson, PhD

As a computer expert and engineering scientist, Patterson brings many years of experience to the position of chief technical officer. He is in charge of development of the OR Benchmarks proprietary software. After many years of teaching engineering and computer science at Swarthmore College, he was director of the computer center at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, Boulder, Colo, and on the board of Cray Research.

Maiz Azul

Better know as Maizie, this Golden Retriever is in charge of napping, greeting the UPS person, assisting staff in eating activities, and keeping daily tasks in perspective by insisting on long walks.
